Fine Arts

July 22, 2008

Children who participate in fine arts education typically have higher standardized test scores, a higher sense of self-worth, lower incidence of substance usage and gang affiliations.

The skills they learn will transfer to other areas of their lives and they will become more self-assured adults who feel comfortable presenting their ideas in the workplace and beyond. Studies have shown that adults who were involved in fine arts as children tend to have more stable personal lives and successful careers. Our students will be better prepared to meet the challenges of their future lives.

 That is an invaluable gift!

DANCE

Students learn the technique and elements of every modality of dance. They are constantly in motion during their dance classes and benefit from the healthy exercises associated. Dance classes are leveled based on three categories:
beginners
intermediate
advanced

MUSIC

The music department at WHCS strives daily for excellence in music education in the areas of theory, sight reading, composition and technique.

The students will learn the basic skills of reading music, explore other cultures' musical identities and gain an understanding of musicology and the performance of folk and classical works.

Music offers students a discipline that can be applied to many areas of study and is an invaluable tool in a child's educational experience.

ART

WHCS's Core Knowledge curriculum and classical education philosophy will be guides to SUCCESS for your children.  Your children's artwork will be prominently displayed within the school. And as school assemblies and festivals are planned, ART will be a part of them.

Our classwork will consist of practicing techniques, making artwork, and learning about the building blocks or "elements" of art - line, shape, form, color, space, texture, and value.  In accordance with out classical education tenets, we will also spend considerable time reading about artists and understanding the time periods in which the masterpieces of art history were created.
